MODULES FOR INCLUSION IN TRAINING WORKSHOPS AND DISTANCE LEARNING |
Author: |
Micah I Krichevsky |
Abstract: |
The following table presents topics as candidates for inclusion in workshops combining a specific discipline, biosafety, with topics on information generation, management, and analysis. Each Major Topic, has Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced modules. The organizers and sponsors can choose any desired combination of modules for inclusion in a workshop program. This table is not exhaustive. The organizers of the workshop should suggest other topics of importance for inclusion.
The order of the table is one that was convenient for table organization. The order of the modules must be rearranged to: a) fit the intent and design parameters of the particular workshop, and b) present the modules in an interesting and useful order. For example, hands on computer time might well be interspersed with the biosafety modules. Liberal use of discussion sessions as well as case study analysis enhances active interest and participation.
The particular level of modules chosen must reflect the initial level of the workshop participants in any particular area. Often, the workshop modules chosen will contain a mixture of Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced modules depending on both the purpose of the workshop and the backgrounds of the participants. When a mixture of background levels of the participants is anticipated, such as is often the case in computer skills, an introductory workshop for a day or two for the neophytes proved successful to enhance their skills.
